Ranthambhore: In the Furnace of Summer, the Theatre of Tigers
In May, when the heat in Ranthambhore turns fierce and unrelenting, the forest begins to reveal its secrets. Water grows scarce, the lakes shrink into lifelines, and every creature of the jungle is drawn into the open, making it the finest season to encounter India’s most elusive monarch. Alongside Corbett, this storied park stands as one of the great stages for that possibility.
On one such scorching day, fortune unfolded into something extraordinary. A pair of siblings emerged from the dry grass and began to stalk a family of wild boar, their movements fluid, deliberate, electric with intent, albeit lacking in skill and experience. What followed was not just the drama of the hunt but a rare glimpse into their world; of playfulness, power, and the intimacy of their bond. Later, we found their sister alone, her presence quieter but no less commanding.
It became my most unforgettable sighting, not merely for the proximity, but for the time they granted us, and for the spectacle they seemed to perform in that blazing summer light.
This photo essay is a tribute to that day in the furnace of Ranthambhore, where patience, heat, and luck converged to reveal the wild in all its grace and raw theatre.
